Sylvia Amorino graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Performance from Sonoma State University, and went on to receive her Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance from Holy Names University in Oakland, Ca. Her first love being the operatic stage, Ms. Amorino has performed with local Bay Area companies such as Festival Opera, Novato Lyric Opera, Sonoma State Opera, and Sonoma City Opera. Sylvia also enjoys recital work and has sung for the Performing Arts Society, The Vallejo Choral Society, as well as many other associations and churches.
A private instructor of voice, stage movement, and music theory for the past 40 plus years, Ms. Amorino is an active member of NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing), PAS (Performing Arts Society), and MTAC (Music Teachers Association of Ca.). She has also been an off-campus voice teacher for Diablo Valley College and directed for the opera workshop at Holy Names University. As a vocal/jury adjudicator, she has worked with MTAC, Los Medanos College, Vacaville Fiesta Days Talent Competition, and The Stairway to the Stars Talent Competition. In addition to teaching, Sylvia has devoted her time to a vocal research project concerning TMD (Temporomandibular Disorders) and their effects on the singing voice. Ms. Amorino has written an article entitled “TMD and the Singing Voice” that was published and reviewed in The NATS Journal, The Journal of Craniomandibular Practice, The TMJ Update, and Cranio-View.
Sylvia is also the Founder and Artistic Director of Solo Opera, a chamber opera company that is based in the Concord/Walnut Creek area. For Solo Opera she directed and produced the operas, The Telephone (2000, 2003), The Medium (2000), Amahl and the Night Visitors (2001, 2002, 2003), The Old Maid and the Thief (2004), A Hand of Bridge (2004), The Impresario (2004), Bastien and Bastienna (2004), Chip and His Dog (2014), Hansel and Gretel (2014, 2015), The Computer Kid's Magic Night (2016), The Gift of the Magi (2018), Scalia/Ginsburg (2021), and The Four Note Opera (2022) at The Dean Lesher Regional Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek and other Bay Area venues. In addition, she has produced numerous concerts and gala events for the company including their Opera in the Park, (2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019) as well as their Twelve Days of Christmas event at Macy's Sunvalley Mall on December 14, 2019.
Also, as a stage director, Ms. Amorino was Resident Stage Director for six years on the staff of Holy Names University Opera Scenes Workshop, working with conductor, Monroe Kanouse. In March-May 2003, she directed and designed Riders to the Sea by Vaughan Williams for a collaboration with Solo Opera, Holy Names University and Goat Hall Productions in San Francisco. And in March 2002, to rave reviews, she also directed La Bohème for Livermore Valley Opera working with San Francisco Opera conductor, Sara Jobin. December 2012, Sylvia returned to LVO to direct/produce/costume their production of Amahl and the Night Visitors. Upcoming projects include directing/producing Solo Opera's production of The Three Feathers, music by Lori Laitman and libretto by Dana Gioia for Sept. 8 and 10, 2023 at the Lesher Center for the Arts.

Miguel Gonzalez has a B.S. in Business Administration and an MBA from St. Mary’s College of California. He recently retired from AT&T where he worked in their Network, IT and Finance departments. In his spare time he is an avid trail runner and cyclist.
Miguel has been a lover of classical music since he was a young boy listening to the symphony on the radio with his mother. He attended his first opera production, La Traviata, at the San Francisco Opera House in 1983 and today he and his wife are regular season ticket holders. Mr. Gonzalez has been on the board of Solo Opera since their founding in 2000 using his financial skills to assist them in the various roles of Vice President, Treasurer, Co-Producer, and Publicist.
Miguel is also very active in his community. In addition to serving this year as Vice President and Treasurer of Solo Opera, he volunteers with different service groups such as the St. Agnes Mexico Workcamp, which builds homes in Mexico, St. Mary's College Latino Alumni, AT&T HACEMOS, and Contra Costa / Solano Food Bank. Mr. Gonzalez has been awarded the President's Volunteer Service Award for his many hours of service to the community.

Attorney Courtney Daniels’ expertise in business transactions includes entity formation, contract negotiations and drafting, corporate governance, business operations and management, acquisitions, and sales. Mrs. Daniels’ experience in federal court and her real estate background have provided her with a unique legal perspective, allowing her to bring solutions that are informed by industry understanding and strategically aligned with her clients’ objectives. In August 2019, Mrs. Daniels was recognized as a Top Lawyer in the Nonprofit Organizations category by Sacramento Magazine. Mrs. Daniels is also an accomplished equestrian and opera singer.

Mel is a writer by trade who has worked with renowned advertising agencies and sporting goods manufacturing companies. He also started and ran a successful freelance creative agency and for the last ten years has worked in the field of healthcare as a writer. Currently, he is the Social Media Community Manager at Kindred Healthcare
Mel started playing guitar in his hometown of Mexico City and played in acoustic-electric prog-rock ensembles before moving to the U.S. to pursue a career in communications. Since 2014, Mel ramped up his commitment to playing live music and currently plays in an Americana/Folk ensemble band as well as in a duo with a well-known singer-songwriter. A deep passion for learning led Mel to discover private voice lessons and Solo Opera, which he recently joined as a board member.
Mel has previous board experience as a Director on the Eagle Peak Montessori Charter School board for 5 years. During that time, he led the development of the redesign of the school's logo and all graphic elements. He was responsible for the development of a new website with improved parent/school interface. Mel helped revise the way teachers' salaries were evaluated and always voted to increase teacher pay. He also was on the Communications Committee which was tasked with developing better outreach tools to serve the fundraising efforts and improving overall communication among staff and parents. Mel participated in monthly meetings in which they covered the expansion of the school from 5th to 6th and then all the way to 8th grade and also worked closely with the Development Committee that was tasked with guiding the physical expansion of the school which is now underway. In his capacity as director he also oversaw the development of more bi-lingual materials to better serve the Latino community. Mel is thrilled to be able to bring this board experience now to Solo Opera.
